What do we do?                                                  TOP OF PAGE

Instrumental Solutions focuses on three activities

  1. Evaluation – Both outside investors and internal corporate decision-makers may find a need for qualified, unbiased examination of business opportunities.  Informed opinion about the suitability of the available technology to potential markets is generally needed when estimating valuations in anticipation of a divestiture or an acquisition. For new product development there are two really important times that assessment can be most helpful.

An appraisal prior to initiation of a major project will ensure that  the individual parts are sound and that they fit together as an integrated system.

A mid-course technology audit to verify that business objectives can still be achieved within time and budget constraints is frequently very useful and cost-effective.

  1. Recommendation – Beyond evaluation, which is an intrinsically passive look at what is already being done, there is the challenge of actively suggesting specific ways to improve the asset.  Sometimes the most cost-effective solution is to go after fresh markets with existing hardware.  At other times, improvements to the technology yield a bigger payback.  Invariably, the potential benefits come with demands for additional time and resources.  We can link these costs directly to anticipated incremental value, clarifying the tradeoffs you must face.

  2. Implementation – We can also complete the job by executing some or all of our recommendations.  The team is skilled in hardware, algorithms, business strategy, marketing tactics, partnering mechanisms, and intellectual property management.

How do we help define client needs?            TOP OF PAGE

Instrumental Solutions recognizes the competing forces that managers face when building a commercial product: higher quality technology versus lower costs.  Indeed, awareness of this conflict informs all the phases of our activities.  By listening very carefully to your aspirations while being mindful of all resource constraints, Instrumental Solutions works thoughtfully to help you distinguish the necessary from the inessential.  As a result, we will provide a reasoned  explanation of the trade offs, assisting you to confidently set program goals based on a solid understanding of the cost/benefit ratio.

How do we interact with our clients?              TOP OF PAGE

While capable of independent action, Instrumental Solutions strongly prefers to work closely with your experts.  After all, in most cases these are the best informed individuals available and, when thoughtfully engaged, can usually accelerate progress far beyond a stand-alone approach.  We are careful to establish a flexible approach, respectful of your experts’ time, and recognizing that your staff is generally occupied with a host of other activities.
